Three Rivers has taken over operations of Kings Playhouse in Georgetown, restructuring the theatre’s management to alleviate burnout among its current executives. The town plans to hire an artistic director and an operations supervisor to focus on programming and creative work, respectively, alongside hiring additional staff. Mayor Debbie Johnston emphasized that the new model reduces administrative burdens, allowing more resources to be directed toward cultural programming. This shift follows the resignation of the playhouse’s executive director, giving the town and volunteer board a chance to rethink their operational strategy. Johnston highlighted that the integration of professional staff will enhance efficiency by reducing reliance on a single person. However, she stressed that maintaining Kings Playhouse as an active cultural hub remains critical, noting its long-standing presence in Georgetown. The budget support for arts and culture remains stable, but community groups argue for stronger funding to sustain the facility’s role in the broader region.
