Johnson accounted for a remarkable 40.7 percent of his team's total yards during the regular season, leading the nation in this category. He also ranked second in yards from scrimmage, yards from scrimmage per game (151.8), and all-purpose yards per game. Johnson's versatility extended to receptions, as he led the country in receptions by a running back and ranked ninth in total touchdowns with 15.
Johnson's performance against Iowa was particularly notable. He had eight rushing games of over 100 yards, one receiving game of 100 yards, and one rushing game of over 200 yards. This made him just the fourth back to rush for more than 200 yards against Iowa in the last decade, joining Saquon Barkley, Jonathan Taylor, and Mohamed Ibrahim.
