Eagles' Joe Douglas: From Jets' GM to Falcons' Radar (2026)

The Atlanta Falcons are reportedly eyeing a key figure from the Philadelphia Eagles' successful front office for their General Manager position! It seems the Eagles' winning formula is so impressive that other teams are looking to poach their talent. This is a common, yet often debated, practice in the NFL.

According to reports, the Falcons have officially put in a request to interview Joe Douglas, who currently serves as a senior personnel director and advisor to the general manager for the Philadelphia Eagles. This move comes as the Falcons are actively seeking to fill their GM vacancy.

But here's where it gets interesting: Douglas isn't exactly new to this. He previously rejoined the Eagles in May of 2025. Before that, he had a significant stint as the New York Jets' general manager, where he accumulated a record of 32-68 over approximately 5.5 seasons. Prior to his time with the Jets, Douglas was an integral part of the Eagles' front office from 2016 to 2019, serving as the vice president of player personnel alongside the well-respected Howie Roseman.

It's generally quite uncommon for general managers to get a second chance in a similar high-level role with another team after a previous tenure, which makes Douglas's inclusion in the mix noteworthy. While his past GM record might lead some to question his likelihood for the role, the fact that he's being considered shows he's definitely in the running.

And this is the part most people miss: Douglas isn't the only former Eagles personnel executive on the Falcons' radar. The Falcons have also interviewed Andy Weidl, who was the Eagles' vice president of player personnel before Douglas left Philly. Weidl has since moved on to become the assistant general manager for the Pittsburgh Steelers as of 2022.

Furthermore, Ian Cunningham, another former Eagles director of player personnel, has also had an interview with Atlanta. Cunningham has been the assistant general manager for the Chicago Bears since 2022.

It's pretty clear to see the pattern here! The Eagles' recent success has clearly made their front office personnel highly desirable. Some might even speculate that the Falcons' new head coach, Kevin Stefanski, who hails from Philadelphia, might have a hand in this interest.

We'll have to wait and see if the Falcons decide to bring Douglas back into a GM role, or if they opt for someone else. If Douglas does land the job, it could create another opening within the Eagles' front office, potentially leading Howie Roseman to search for a replacement for Douglas's current role.

What do you think? Is it fair for teams to raid successful front offices like the Eagles', or should there be more emphasis on developing talent internally? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
