BGN Clarifies: Students Not Compelled to Collect Free Meals During Holidays
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has addressed concerns regarding the distribution of Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) during school holidays. Deputy Head Nanik Sudaryati Deyang assured that students are not obligated to collect MBG during this period.
"Children are not required to attend school, and it is acceptable if the MBG is collected by their caregivers or relatives. Schools and parents have the autonomy to decide whether to receive the meals, and there is no coercion involved. The MBG program is designed to support families, not burden them," Deyang explained during a recent confirmation in Jakarta.
BGN acknowledges the importance of consistent nutrition support for students, but understands the need for flexibility during school breaks. The Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) and MBG kitchens offer schools the option to continue receiving MBG if they choose. The meals are delivered in the form of dry food, catering to the school's preferences.
Addressing budget concerns, Deyang refuted claims that holiday MBG distribution aims to deplete funds. She highlighted that the program's budget is substantial, standing at Rp71 trillion in 2025, with an initial target of six million beneficiaries. However, the program has successfully reached 50 million Indonesian children, toddlers, breastfeeding mothers, and pregnant women.
The cost-effectiveness of the MBG program is attributed to the support of foundations and partners who independently establish MBG kitchens, reducing the burden on BGN. The agency's expenses are primarily allocated to meal costs, employee salaries, and operational costs, with a focus on ensuring efficient and effective nutrition support for Indonesian children.
BGN remains committed to President Prabowo's vision of ensuring that no Indonesian child misses out on the benefits of the MBG program. The agency continues to work diligently to improve children's nutrition, addressing any challenges that may arise along the way.
